The winery Bodega Pagos del Moncayo obtains the ECO-PROWINE stamp.

Our history

At the end of 2012, the Pagos del Moncayo’s family was enriched with the incorporation of Louis Geirnaerdt and Eugenie Van Ekeris, bringing their extensive experience in the sector and providing the company with new tools for marketing and internationalisation.

Our winery is located at the foot of the Sierra del Moncayo, in the heart of the Iberian mountain range as it passes through Aragón. Given the proximity to Vera del Moncayo and its privileged location in the province of Zaragoza, the beauty and richness of the environment in which we produce our wines are incomparable.

Pagos del Moncayo is the result of a family dream: to transmit through our wines all the passion and experience resulting from centuries of tradition in the cultivation of grenache grapes in the lands of Campo de Borja.

In 2013 we took part, in collaboration with Axial Vinos, in the European Eco-Innovation Project ‘ECO-PROWINE’, which aims to implement initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of winemaking. As part of the project, we implemented the Life Cycle Analysis tool, acting on each of the production phases of our wines. This ECO-ETIQUET certifies that our winery’s emission levels are well below the European average.

"Meticulous care and craftsmanship"

At Pagos del Moncayo we have a team of people who are passionate about creating wines and committed to our philosophy of artisan production. Undoubtedly, the rich experience contributed by the members of our small family, both at the creative and technical level, is the true value of our winery.

The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in small crates to protect the fruit as much as possible. Maceration is carried out in open vats for a week before alcoholic fermentation.

The grapes are crushed in the traditional way, thus guaranteeing the maximum potential and extraction of the colour of the grape and flavour. Once fermentation is completed, the wine is separated from the pomace by using a manual pressing system. This guarantees the high quality of the botained wines.

Prados fusión

Dark ruby color. The nuances of jam provided by the syrah variety are combined with the freshness of the Mediterranean grenache. Therefore, they offer the notes of «garrigue», such as rosemary, thyme and lavender, also present in the aftertaste. As a result, an extroverted and open wine, with round tannins and a silky finish that invites you to continue drinking.

Prados colección syrah

Intense cherry tones with hints of violet. It is a pleasant and tasty wine, with deep aromas of wild fruits and violets. Also, cassis, plum jam and black currant. Additionally, blackberry, black olives and truffles.

Prados privé

Intense purple color, and fresh aromas of thyme and rosemary, impregnated with the nearby meadows. On the palate it is presented with great amplitude, pure ripe fruit; that is to say: silky, tasty and dense.

Our sustainable grape seed

Pagos del Moncayo has a manual cultivation and a biological control of the vineyard.

We also use solar energy. Our winery is not connected to the electricity grid; we use solar panels.

The winemaking process is carried out in open vats, which allows us to control the process with our own hands and carry out the traditional treading of the grapes.

The air conditioning is natural. Thanks to the influence of the Moncayo air, the winery does not need artificial air conditioning systems.
