The winery of Las Moradas de San Martín was founded in 1999, on the Madrid side of the Sierra de Gredos. Thus, to recover the centuries-old grenache vineyards that have been cultivated since the 12th century, in the municipality of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Madrid.
Located in «Pago de los Castillejos», that is, where the community of Madrid converges with the north of Toledo and the south of Ávila, on the outskirts of the Sierra de Gredos. As a result, the climate and the special soils of this area allow us to produce vegan wines with a lot of personality and quality. In essence, based on the native varieties of the red grenache and albillo real, under organic viticulture.
In short, a commitment with the future of people, and with this land.
We seek that whoever that enjoys our wines, travels back to its origin; that is, to el Pago and the natural environment. At the top of the mountain, the soils are granite-sandy in composition, which gives depth and minerality to the wines. Therefore, together with the natural acidity of the grape, they form the axis of Las Moradas de San Martín.
Long, enveloping, subtle, elegant wines, at the same time very lively and fresh. Additionally, with a very surprising aging capacity of the grenache variety.
A project in which, in addition, we have had to break big topics and start from scratch, in order to be able to know our own raw material well. That is, without external make-up that distorts reality, and that allows us to produce vegan wines from organic viticulture.
A complex, round and balanced wine, with a medium-high layer of cherry tones and a very lively and long mouthfeel. As a result, ‘LAS LUCES’ tries to capture the essence of grenache in these terroirs, with rain-fed vineyards over sixty years old, in the most natural and respectful way possible.
Made with the historical castiza variety that gives it its name, Albillo Real ECO is a white wine with an oxidative tendency and an elegant aging. Pale in color and aromas that remind us of quince candy, pears, honey, white flowers such as orange blossom, jasmine, grapefruit peel, and balsamic. A very original white wine due to its unctuous and silky mouthfeel, with a slightly salty finish (due to the minerality provided by the granite), and enhanced by a slight bitterness typical of the variety. Therefore, it makes it very personal, unique and gastronomic.
A wine with all the nuances of the grenache variety, grown on granite soils in the area. As a result, harmonious, sober, with aromas of balsamic, cherry, red plum, Mediterranean mountain, wild fruits, graphite, and mineral nuances of granite. It is a wine to enjoy with any pairing due to its essence and roundness. Very personal and balanced. It embodies the essence of red grenache in this mountain terroir, with rain-fed vineyards between 50 and 112 years old, in the most natural and respectful way possible.
Las Moradas de San Martín is located within ZEPA 56 zone (Special Protection Zone for Birds): a landscape of great environmental value thanks to its native flora and fauna.
This environment is a true natural lung, with a very clean atmosphere that we, at Las Moradas, respect and maintain. For this reason, we carry out preventive treatments with natural products. In the winery, for example, the water is only used for cleaning, and later it is reused for the irrigation of new plantations.
Therefore, Las Moradas has the ecological certification in the winery and vineyard, where it also carries out biodynamic practices. Likewise, it practices a vinification system without interventionism, to give all the prominence to the variety, giving rise to vegan elaborations.
