What is the ECO-PROWINE stamp?

ECO-PROWINE is a stamp that indicates the winery’s sustainability in the wine production process throughout the entire winemaking chain. The objective of ECO-PROWINE is to offer a framework for evaluation and benchmarking as a guide towards the reduction of environmental impacts in the wine sector without reducing the quality of the final product.

Wineries endorsed by the ECO-PROWINE stamp have an above-average production process in terms of sustainability and the quality of their wine remains excellent.

WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE WINE?

The sustainable wine production, from grape to bottle, is defined as the capacity for continuous improvement, on the path of minimizing polluting emissions and the consumption of non-renewable resources, towards a circular and social responsible economy.

ABOUT CIRCE

CIRCE is a technology center founded in 1993, which seeks to provide innovative solutions for SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
CIRCE works to improve the competitiveness of companies by generating technology transfer, through R+D+i activities and market-oriented training, within the field of sustainability and resource efficiency, energy networks and renewable energies.

ECO-PROWINE was born in 2012 funded with more than 900,000€ by the European Commission under the umbrella of the CIP-EcoInnovation program.

The project lasted three years and its objective was to analyze the sustainability of wine production under the Life Cycle Analysis methodology approach.

As a result, a tool was developed to measure the environmental impacts of wine production.

Currently, in 2020, ECO-PROWINE has been relaunched to develop a sustainability label and with it strengthen the competitiveness of wineries by implementing measures (technological and non-technological) profitable from an economic and environmental point of view.
